The Excalibur is a legendary sword that can be found within numerous Final Fantasy games, and its source of influence is quite clear – the mythical sword that belonged to King Arthur.
Its first appearance was within the original Final Fantasy. Here, Excalibur appeared as an exclusive weapon for Knights, and it was one of the incredibly powerful Ultimate Weapons available to players, alongside the Masamune. Obtaining the Excalibur would there give any party a significant edge when tackling some of the game’s more challenging encounters, but it could easily be missed.
To get the Excalibur, players would need to undertake a small side-quest that related to finding a specific material and then visiting a Blacksmith capable of crafting the majestic weapon.
Finding The Material Needed To Craft Excalibur
Unlike some of the more modern entries, this particular side-quest did not have an initiation point, as such. Instead, players just needed to take it upon themselves and the first step related to finding the material required to craft Excalibur.
That material would be Adamantite (or Adamant for older versions of the game) and it could be found on the second floor of the Flying Fortress. If you head to the lower-left branch of this second floor, you will find a room; the Adamantite can be found inside.
Where To Find The Smith To Craft Excalibur
To craft Excalibur, you will need to head to Mount Duregar. Inside, head to the secret dwarven city hidden beneath where you will find a blacksmith called “Smith” (or Smyth in some versions).
Give Smith the Adamantite and he will very kindly make you the Excalibur sword.
From there, all you have to do is enjoy your brand new Ultimate Weapon – assuming you have someone within your party who is able to wield it!
