Kelk Ronso was an unforgettable character who stood out amongst the raft of NPCs found within Final Fantasy X due to his unwavering loyalty, noble spirit, and unyielding determination.
A renowned warrior from the Ronso tribe and Maester of Yevon, Kelk embodied the ideals of strength, honour, and sacrifice, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of players and fans alike.
Within the narrative, Kelk Ronso first graced the stage in Final Fantasy X within Bevelle. Many years prior, he had been promoted to the role of Maester of Yevon alongside Jyscal Guado as part of Grand Maester Yo Mika’s “Sub-Race Appeasement Policy”. His role was to extol the virtues of Yevon to the Guado, but he also served as Minister of Civil Affairs and was in charge of Yevon’s judiciary system.
By the time Kelk was encountered, the cracks within Yevon had started to appear. He condemned Yuna, but found himself entangled in a web of deceit and corruption. This would lead to Kelk removing himself as a Maester of Yevon, returning to Mt. Gagazet to lead the Guado people.
It would be at Mt. Gagazet that Kelk would stand face-to-face with Yuna and her guardians. He still believed in the teachings of Yevon despite the corruption he had witnessed and initially prevented their passage. But guided by his innate sense of justice, Kelk chose to assist the group, providing valuable insights and advice and offering to stop anyone who sought to pursue them up the mountain.
This act would end up being the undoing of Kelk Ronso.
Seymour Guado would be one of those who sought to pursue.
As someone who stuck to their word, Kelk Ronso fought against Seymour as they attempted to stop the unsent Maester. But even though they fought with all their heart, Kelk and many other Ronso perished by Seymour’s hand.
For this reason, Kelk Ronso did not appear within Final Fantasy X-2, as Kimahri became the leader of the Ronso.
